The Piano Man's Perspective

Dear Internet,
As I compose this post let’s get one thing straight: you don’t like me and I don’t like you. But the people demand blog updates, and c jane demands that other people do her work for her. Without compensation, mind you. So here we are.
Before we left on this trip, I didn’t know what to think about this weekend. I didn’t know several of these folks very well, and I already have too many friends, so what was in it for me? Well, it turns out these are pretty good people. And it has been a long time since I went on a vacation to literally sit around all day. Every day. And I have learned three things:
1.       I really enjoy hanging out with friends, both old and new. Old friends are always there, like that unwanted twenty pounds you sometimes kind of want to get rid of but never really want to put in the effort to do so. They’re comfortable, and they’ve been through some stuff with you. They’re where you’ve been. And new friends are like a new food you’ve never tried before; a little different, and maybe even a bit weird. But you trust the chef and you usually end up really enjoying them. New friends are where you’re going. And, over time, with any luck, they might even add to that spare tire. I’d like to think that has happened this weekend.
2.       It is really hard to be away from my two older kids. I’m going to push really hard against the “no kids except babies” rule next time. I’m sure the kids have had a blast with their grandmas and grandpas and aunts and uncles. But they would have loved the beach, and the dive-bombing pelicans, and the trains. And they probably would have made some new friends, too. I can’t wait to see them tomorrow.
3.       Biblemom is my favorite friend. She is everything I am not and everything I want to be. I have been reminded several times this weekend about the first thing I really loved about her, which is how easy she is to talk to. If someone has to be stuck with me forever, I am glad it gets to be her.
Well, that’s about it. There has been talk about this trip becoming an annual or even semi-annual event. I hope it does, although The Mayor says a lot of stuff he doesn’t really mean. We’ll see.

I am c jane and I did compensate for this post. 2 croutons.
