Last Minute Gifts? I Got You Covered
I wanted to do an original gift guide in November when the gift buying is as fresh as the pumpkin pie, but it didn't happen. This morning I woke up and thought, it's not too late! There's someone out there who hasn't even started shopping! Is that person you? If it is, I hope this helps (it's short):
FOR THE KIDS WHO LIKE A LITTLE IMAGINATION WITH THEIR DOLLS:
For Erin's birthday we bought her a Green Stitches doll, it's a handstitched mermaid (hand painted, 100% cotton, wool and felt, machine washable!) we called Laguna. It was fate too, because they were all sold out at the Bijou Market except this last one. I couldn't believe it. Well, the kids played with it, slept with it, loved it and fought over it so much we were forced to get another doll, Coral. And if that weren't enough, we also bought a pirate for the kids for Christmas. That way, all three of my children will have one of these gorgeous dolls and there will be peace and harmony in our home. (Fingers crossed.)

FOR THE BLOGGER, GAMER AND INTERNET-LOVER:
This summer I read this novel in two days sitting on my couch trying to ignore morning sickness. It was pretty gripping. Told like a Dan Brown thriller, The Curtain exposes some of the biggest secrets of the Internet business. Hint: it's all about getting your information. And there's a part about how mommy blogging is used to drive women to perfection which ultimately leads them to buy more stuff. You can imagine I was pretty engrossed. Anyway, if you buy it, I guarantee it will make for a great post-Christmas-sit-on-the-couch-and-read book. You know, the best part of the holiday season.

FOR THE CHARITABLE:
The Asande House is a home for orphans in Kenya. Thirty-two children are being sponsored to live there and get an education. It's a pretty beautiful story of rescuing these children who would've otherwise died. Right now, there is a page on the website where you can donate money that will go towards new shoes, mattresses, blankets and sheets as well as an option to feed the orphanage's cow for a month or buy it medicine. You can also donate to a college fund for the kids. Doing this in the name of someone on your gift list would be pretty heartfelt. And it goes without saying, this is what the season is all about.

I've been really impressed with Annie K. Blake's art this year. One of these comma paintings hangs in my room, and it seems fitting to me--a symbol of something to come next. (Which for us, right now is a baby!) I also recently purchased one of the paintings from her Timpanogos series which is really great gift for those of us who live under the spell of this majestic mountain, or for those who have moved away and missed its legendary face.

I think this Atly idea pretty fantastic. For Christmas (or anytime of the year) you can buy someone in your life an online class to take from experts in their fields. You can chose classes on writing, photography, cooking, crafting, sewing, business and on and on.When you buy a class you have access to the lecture for life, and some classes are on-going, like a series. To learn more about this concept because clearly I'm not explaining it well, go to the Atly website.
Ok, that's what I wanted to share. Happy gift-buying. If you're wondering what to get me (so thoughtful of you) I just want the new Celine Dion album and a couple hours to sit in my room in silence. I'm easy.
