Me

Here it is, the last shot.
After I have a baby I feel more creature than human. My body seems alien and my life feels like I've jumped to a new planet in the solar system. Jed really wanted these last pictures to look "genuinely me"--as I've reviewed last year's photo-shoots I am not entirely sure what that means. I suppose I look like a woman who is trying to figure it out--who she is and what that looks like.
But for today, I am this.

Beautiful!! But...the one with you lying down ~ I thought you were holding your b00b!! HA! Then I realized it was a pillow and not your shirt. :D

You look beautiful, as always. I know its hard to see the beauty in our own faces, but sometimes, you just have to listen to everyone else.

Now... I want your necklace!!! Where's it from?

I thought the same thing! So beautiful though!

I think this and October's photos are my favourites. I Love how they capture a sense of fiery glamour. Will you continue with the monthly head shots this year?

How it is that you can continue to rock the wild and seductive catwalk hair day after day, baffles and thills me. You're my hair hero, among other things. Oh how the camera loves you. A great year, to be sure.

Courtney, thank you for sharing the words that go along with the pictures. They are both lovely and real. I too have felt like an alien after having each of my children. It is a profound blessing to bring forth life and to be all that is mother. Yet, the enormity of it all, the weight of it ALL is enough to cause a complete metamorphosis of every aspect of our lives. We are forever changed. Our hearts, minds, souls, and bodies are evolving into who God has created us to be for eternity. I like to think of the post partum days as my "cocoon" days. Those weeks, months or even years of transition, with all the joy and pain have brought me to the highest highs the lowest lows. Slowly, though I see "me" emerging. And really what I see is God. And I am created in His image. There is where I want to be. I pray that you will continue to keep your eyes fixed on Him in the days ahead. And that you will find peace in this amazing metamorphosis. Thank you for sharing you are a great encoragement to many other moms out here.

Thank you for putting into words how I have, a year later, finally STOPPED feeling. That is exactly right.

And seriously? A creature? A GORGEOUS creature!

you laying sideways in the pillows is how I 'think' of you!

gorgeous! and how fun to have a full year of YOU! doesn't happen that often for us mommas. good for you.

Also...little side note. I met Mindy Gledhill at Queen Bee Market. I told her how much I loved her music and how sweet she was...but I also told her how lucky she was to be YOUR friend and get to sing with you. It might have been weird, but I thought you'd like that. It is all about you...right?!

Oh I also told her to tell you that I totally get your sarcasm and wit and wished I was your friend or neighbor. You make me laugh! Thank you!

Since I think we never have enough positive things in our lives, can I just say how much I love these! Especially the one with you laying down and smilIng! So terrific!!

Excellent photos! You are really lovely and I love that you look so natural (as opposed to photoshopped). You also look very comfortable in front of the camera. I'd be ecstatic if photos of me came out so beautifully.

C. Jane, you look beautiful! Thank you for being brave enough to take such honest pictures. You could not look lovelier!

I made captions in my head for every picture. They were all about the pillows. It was very funny, you should have been there.

Pony and Petey said...

I'm saying this in all honesty...you have a beautiful smile. Please choose a picture where you're smiling. When I look at those, I feel like I'm seeing the real you.

I know you CAN be serious but I think you're basically a funny person who communicates best through humor... snarky humor...awesomeness!

So to see the pics of you where you're serious doesn't seem to fit with the pic I have of you in my head where you have a smile...and probably a smirk is closer to the real you...in my mind, at least!

Thanks for sharing this process with us and allowing us to chime in on our favorites!

The hair. Oh the hair! Well done. And wowsa, the girls look fabulous in that black silky number, that was the part of nursing that I loved since I am sorely lacking in that department. Trust me, this skinny girl wishes I had half of your lush curves. I believe the big man upstairs made us all unique and it shows in your photos because you embrace YOU.

Lovely description of motherhood. Lose yourself to find yourself, isn't it? After 5 kids, I'm starting to see me.

And Courtney, you go girl!

You look gorgeous!!!!!! I'm pregnant with number 5 and find it so weird after each baby especially the first few days with one deflated belly. You however look stunning! I think every mama should do something like this! Gorgeous! Be proud of them!
