Two Days without Mom

Chup here -

So, c jane  ("mom" to us)  was called away on some hoity-toity bloggeriffic trip to Chicago for two days and I (chup) was called upon to sit on the kiddies.

2 year-old: no problem.  6 month-old: terrifying.

So, I immediately called my parents who were going to be in town (see below for important event) to see if they'd stay a couple extra days. Unfortunately, Grandma had previous commitments...but Grandpa said he could help out.

Day One:
After dropping Mom off at the airport, we met everyone at Denny's (it was close to the freeway, ok?) to celebrate.  My little bro MD, and his wife Kentucky had just finalized their little Peanut's adoption.  Congrats to them and big brother Phun!

Kentucky and Peanut.  It's OFFICIAL!  (snap by MD)

The Phun.

Denny's.

Grandpa and I had to get some errands done, and enlisted the help of Little Einsteins, Wall-E, lots of books and maybe a McDonalds Playland to fill the day.

 Day Two:

More Little Einsteins, Smashburger and an epic walk.

New Obsession: huffing and puffing after watching The Three Little Pigs on Little Einsteins.

Grateful for; Grandpa and his baby-whispering gift, Johnny Jump-up, baba-na-night, and Mom coming home safe tonight.

BIG thanks to BlogHer for the invite and amazing trip!

- Chup

Fabulous photos! I especially enjoyed your video! What kind of video camera do you use for such interesting depth of field?

What a great dad and grandpa! I'm sure "mom" is proud (and very grateful)!

your kids are awesome!
Chief's huffing and puffing is so funny, and Grandpa looks like a dream-grandpa!
Enough with the exclamationmarks already, but Ever has some serious ballet-skillz!

That was my favorite mommy blog video ever. Stylistically, it was kind of like if Ingmar Bergman wanted to make a really heartwarming short about a grandfather and his grandchildren.

you know this made me sigh... an happy sigh... to hear about a dad enlisting the help of grandad... sadly I rarely hear of this... I doubt my father in law would EVER actually he would NEVER help my husband look after our kids

I've actually never been away from my kids.. well I have been away plenty of times but always with my husband... I should say I have NEVER left the kids with him overnight... ha haha ha hh what a great idea....

actually i lie.. there was that one time I went to relief society camp... ha hahaha...

Good job, dad. You survived with style.

P.S. It sounds to me like the Chief's telling Grandpa he's got a BOOGER, not a blue car. And I just had a vision of that delicious little Ever ballet dancing en pointe—she's wearing that Johnny Jumper like a tutu. Swan Lake!

Whoa. Seriously, please tell about whatever camera made this masterpiece. It's beautiful!! I love the contrast of the Cheif's sweet soft face with Grandpa's whiskery wrinkle wisdom, then Ever's buttery babyness bounce bouncing in her jump up! Beautiful! Camera please? All future memories must be captured this way!

Good job Chup! LOVED the video, so beautiful and so fun, I about died when I saw Ever's super sweet chubby legs jumping around! And The Chief's blowing is adorable!

The Chief is such a cutie. I loved his face in that picture over the booth.

I've missed reading Cjanes posts so thanks for filling my 'need' in her absence. Looks like you and grandpa have everything under complete control. So, so sweet. Glad to know she's got a great husband like I do. Oh and super congrats to your brother's family. My first child was adopted so I know how incredibly special that is.

I really don't get why a dad can't take care of his two kids by himself.

When our girls were 1, 3, and 5 years onld I went to visit my sister in California for a week. We lived in West Virginia at the time, with no nearby relatives. My husband did just great. The older two even went to Bible School that week. All my friends told me they showed up (on time!) each day looking very cute. So, two kids for a couple days should not be that big a deal.

I know, I hate it when people with money spend money. Those bastards!

In response to anonymous - I think it is great that Chup was able to spend time with his father and his kids. Those grandchildren are going to remember this. I am lucky enough to have my in laws live 10 miles away in Arizona. If my husband ever has to go out of town or if I go out of town, they both are the best for helping out when the 5 kids get out of school and we are still at work. My in laws love the time they get to spend with the grandchildren and my kids adore them. I feel blessed that they live so close to us that our children get to know them and spend time with them.

You know nie wouldn't have gotten hurt if mr nielson hadn't broken the rules and taken her in the plane. But this whole family thinks they are too good to follow the rules. and they still believe this. they expect everyone to treat them special. what makes them so special? other families have had worse tragedies, why did know one care about them?

AMY said...

I think I am going to throw up. What happened to Stephanie is not her fault. They didn't rob a bank, Chup and Christian both have JOBS for the love of God. They are frugal with most purchases and don't spend frivolously. (You would know this if you REALLY read the blog instead of scanning for hatred fuel). When they are purchasing something that should LAST, like a CAMERA, they do research and spend what they need to to buy something they will have forever that they won't have to replace every 6 months and end up spending more money by spending $99on a camera the first time.

If you don't like them, WHY in the heck do you even read the blog? Why waste your time typing in the web address, reading the whole thing, make uneducated opinions then take the time to go to the comments? This is a problem, and it is yours. I PRAY that Stephanie does not read this, and I PRAY that she doesn't believe if she does, but most of all, I PRAY for you to get a life and that the Lord does not hand you the Karma you deserve.

It is there fault though, they chosee to break the rules, and now they have to live with the consequenses, but instead people keep rewarding them! there are so many more people worthy of charity.

Wow... I have read this blog for quite some time now. I believe C Jane has a beautiful family and I would give anything to spend a week with them. There is so much love and fun to go around. Perhaps the people commenting on here don't have much else going for them. We should pray that they find a better purpose in life for life is too short as it is already. The fact that these anom take the time to respond like this is pretty pathetic. Do you honestly think that since they bought themselves a great camera that they are all stuck up rich snobs. I have a feeling C Jane and her family are extremely giving and frugal about the way they spend. I have a good SLR camera myself. I live on my own in an apartment and pay my own bills. I don't make a lot of money and I can't necessarily afford to travel all the time or get a bigger place. When you have a passion in life, something that makes you happy, you find ways to save enough to spend money for something like that. It doesn't mean that you go and buy everything and not give two thoughts about it. A camera can last for years if it's good quality and cared for properly! You might choose to save for a vacation or a new phone or maybe a new purse. They might choose to save for a camera to capture memories of their children that they will not experience the same way again.
I am very happy that everything went so well for Chup. I fully agree that Dads need to step up and be more a part of the raising process or take over when Mom is not around. There are plenty that do it and plenty that do not. I belive some Dads aren't even given the chance though, so it's not fair to judge. Also, I'm sure if Chup was alone with them he'd do just fine. Who wouldn't want help if it's available. I know plenty of Moms that ask for help from a neighbor, babysitter, mother to get a break or just share responsibilities. It doesn't mean they are bad parents or anything like that. I think it's great that Grandpa got to see his son interact with his kids and be able to share in the experience. I know my Dad will love one day to spend time with my brother wathing his children as well.

To the anonymous poster who has taken the thread in a very tasteless, offensive and hurtful direction: The love a person receives is often a direct result of the love they give. Judging by your anger, you are clearly in need of some. I am not a mormon, not even a Christian, but I know love is stronger than hate. And I know there's a lot more love here for Cjane and Nie than hate. Your actions are petty and you need a hug or two, or fifty.

I just dont understand people who get upset (jealous!) of people who make money thru blogging.

Most people have no problems watching a movie they pay for. The actors might even lead questionable lives yet you still pay to watch a movie or a play etc.

Why then dont bloggers deserve to make money (even lots of it) for the written word and even photos.

I personally have decided that I much prefer to read about 'real people's lives' as apposed to reading celebrity magazines etc.

If you get famous from it.. why not...and no we are not worshipping cjane, chup, nie nie... I like their blogs yes.. but I read many others too. I just prefer this to celebrity watching of peoples whose lives are big messes anyway. These real stories are more uplifting

Lemon Lentils (Brittney's recipe!)

1 1/4 cups vegetable oil
2 onions, halved and thinly sliced, about 1 1/2 cups
4 (2-inch pieces) cinnamon stick
2 pounds red lentils
1 tablespoon chopped fresh ginger
5 cups chicken broth
5 cups water
1 teaspoon cayenne
juice of 1 lemon plus the squeezed, seeded shell of said lemon including skin and pulp

salt to taste

1/2 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove, finely minced
1 hot green chile, chopped, with seeds
4 bay leaves
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Heat 3/4 cup of oil in a large saucepan and add the sliced onions. Cook to wilt and add the cinnamon pieces and lentils. Add the ginger and cook, stirring often, for about 10 minutes. Add the broth, water, cayenne and salt to taste. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the lemon juice and lemon shell and cook for about 50 minutes longer, stirring often.

In seperate skillet, heat the remaining 1/2 cup of oil and add the chopped onion, garlic, chile and bay leaves. Cook, stirring, until the onions are browned. Add this mixture, including the oil, to the lentils. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and serve hot.

I think jealousy is probably behind a lot of the hatred. It's a rough economy and a lot of people are very stressed financially. Not only can Courtney stay home with her kids, but apparently the advertising on her blog supports the whole family now, since Chup quit his job too. For most of us, both parents have no choice but to work full-time. And they can sleep in when one of the kids is up sick all night, rather than have to leave for work. And we see the gifts they receive for simply posting snippets of their lives online---makes me envy them too! But not hate them.

I think it's one thing to question Cjane's materialism- it can be pretty over the top - I mean - paying someone to cater and photograph a simple dinner party for friends? Who does that?
But those comments about her sister are disgusting and sooo so mean.

Neither of them have worked a day their life? Somebody sounds jealous and bitter to me...
So what if they spend money? If they have it, it isn't anyone's business.
So what if Chup asked his dad for help? If you disagree just think at least Chup has a relationship with his kids and he is helping his kids create one with their grandpa.

If you have a hard time reading this blog then DON'T READ IT! It's not rocket science.

The same way any other breastfeeding mother would -- she either pumped as much as she could and Ever is on bottles + formula, or they are going with straight formula. Or, heck, maybe someone else is breastfeeding her child while she's gone.

What a weird question, and I'm not sure why you need to know this. It seems like what you were really trying to say is, 'What kind of breastfeeding mother leaves her infant for two days! Isn't breastfeed important to you, Courtney?!' I see a veiled criticism in your 'innocent' query. If you're really interested in learning how breastfeeding mothers leave their babies for long periods of time, Google it.

If you think about it, they are "name dropping" because people always ask them where they get things from (hence why the Dear Cjane blog was created) so I would say its nice of them because they are actually telling people before they/we even ask.
